2016 ISHHR Conference: Mental health, mass people displacement and ethnic minorities
Novi Sad, RS
Attendance type(s): In Person
Event Dates: 03—6 Oct 2016
The title of the 2016 ISHHR Conference is “Mental health, mass people displacement and ethnic minorities” and it will focus on the displacement of communities as a result of conflict, the phenomenon of mass-traumatisation and the response of the European neighbourhood (particularly Central Europe) to the mass influx of fleeing and displaced people from the Middle East and North Africa. However, the ISHHR Council recognises that forced migration is a global issue; for this reason, the Council welcomes contributions offered by individuals from regions outside of the European neighbourhood who work with traumatised and displaced communities.
While the event is targeted at psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other support workers, the conference also aims to build the capacity of researchers, advocates, journalists, students and other individuals working in the field of refugee support, civil society and community development.
The first two days of the event will consist of Capacity Building Workshops which will allow participants to attend sessions that best suit their area of practice and interest. Days three and four of the event will involve an International Conference.
The Capacity Building Workshops will focus on:
Creative therapies in trauma healing
Biofeedback therapy
Building a response capacity to emergencies and mass traumatisation
Ethical dilemmas in providing mental health care to asylum seekers
Anti-trafficking and anti-people smuggling policy
Techniques specific to the support of women and children
Migrant status, asylum claims and the detention model
Radicalisation in the West and the impact this has on community perceptions of refugees and asylum seekers
The International Conference on Health and Human Rights will discuss:
Migratory patterns and legal frameworks for the protection of displaced peoples
The impact of the refugee experience and refugee resettlement on physical and mental health of individuals, families and communities from a community development perspective
How the refugee and migrant crisis in Europe impacts minority populations in transit and destination countries
The ISHHR Secretariat is looking for submissions that relate to the aforementioned themes. Once received, abstracts will be reviewed by ISHHRs Scientific Committee members who will select the papers most appropriate for the event. If selected, you will be invited to present your work in one of the Capacity Building Workshops in Days 1 and 2 of the Conference.
Furthermore, with the support of the Central European Initiative, we are able to offer a limited number of sponsorships to participants from: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Ukraine.
