CITEC Summer School 2016 on Adaptive Systems

Bielefeld University, DE

Attendance type(s): In Person

Event Dates: 27—30 Sep 2016

The 5th CITEC Summer School aims to understand better the principles of adaptive systems in the field of living organisms and robotic applications, covering a wide range from the basic foundations of neuronal systems to cognitive mechanisms, from a multidisciplinary point of view.

CITEC invites motivated Ph.D. candidates from all over the world to discuss the principles of adaptivity form various theoretical perspectives and to work with experts. Keynote talks and hands-on workshops at the cutting-edge CITEC laboratories will relate to scientific understanding, analysis and modeling of autonomous systems in nature and beyond.

Focus issues are
A: Adaptive Motion,
B: Deep Approaches to Relevance Learning,
C: Multimodal Learning and Social Interaction, and
D: Embodiment and Neuromorphic Learning Systems.
Join the event at Bielefeld University, Germany, from 26th to 30th of September, 2016.

Most of the courses provide the opportunity for hands-on experience, involving experiments or data sets captured in CITEC research labs. You are asked to choose one out of this four. They are complemented by talks of leading invited and local experts.
Invited speakers include:

· Ralph Etienne-Cummings, Johns Hopkins University, USA

· Kerstin Fischer, University of Southern Denmark

· Christian Igel, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

· Andrew B. Schwartz, University of Pittsburgh, USA

Beyond the courses and the talks of the speakers, attendance will provide you with ample opportunities for discussions, exchange of ideas with your peers and the participating researchers, and for learning more about CITEC.

The Summer School continues a series of highly successful CITEC Summer Schools started in 2010 and covering the topics of The Structure of Cognitive Motion: From Analysis to Synthesis (2010), Mechanisms of Attention – From Experimental Studies to Technical Systems (2011), Verbal and Non-verbal Interaction: From Experiments to Implementation (2012), and Continuous Learning in Living and Artificial Systems (2013) so far.
