2016 Science Educator of the Year Award

At SfN convention in San Diego, the president recognised Dr. Myslinski as an outstanding neuroscientist who has greatly contributed to neuroscience education around the World. He is a member of the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences, and is one of the most highly rated professors at the University of Maryland.

His creativity and commitment has fostered excitement and understanding of science within broad and diverse audiences. His passion and compassion has inspired more than 20,000 students to learn about the human brain. From kindergartens to graduate schools, from medical and nursing schools to prisons, he is a beloved teacher who demonstrates that neuroscience can be applied to all of our daily lives.

Through his many writings and teachings, his summer research programs, his programs in brain art and literature, and his International Youth Neuroscience Association, he inspires students worldwide. Dr. Myslinski created and leads the International Brain Bee, a neuroscience competition for teenagers. Consisting of 180 Chapters in 50 countries and 6 continents, and collaborating with hundreds of universities and organizations, the Brain Bee motivates young men and women to pursue careers in brain-related basic and clinical sciences. This programme has been hailed as one of the best examples of neuroscience education outreach in the world. His award includes a $5,000.00 honorarium funded by the Dana Alliance, the founder of Brain Awareness Week.

Dr. Myslinski says his ultimate goal is to train scientists to help treat and find cures for brain disorders.
