FENS President Marian Joëls and President-elect Monica Di Luca set out the current landscape of brain disease research in Europe and call for greater attention in Horizon 2020. Both research and innovation are at the core of the Europe 2020 agenda, which aims at pulling all EU member states out of current economic difficulties.

Aiming for development of research and innovation perfectly fits health research. Although European funding for health research is still extremely limited with dedicated funding for the health area representing a mere 10% of the overall EU research budget, it is a start.
