The FENS Committee on Animals in Research (CARE) invites you to mail this letter to the Italian political authorities, at the address specified in the text, so as to contrast the new regulations passed by the Senate on July 8th, 2013, concerning the implementation in Italy of the EU Directive 63-2010 on the protection of animals for scientific research.

We are writing to you to share our concerns regarding the current debate about the implementation of the European Directive 2010/63 on the protection of laboratory animals in Italy.
As scientific community we have strongly supported the new European animal welfare legislation (EU Directive 63-2010)which aimed at generating a harmonized approach throughout the Community. The European discussion lasted almost a decade and led to a well balanced compromise between the demands of animal welfare and research interests.

This well balanced compromise is now put at risk in Italy with significant risks for the future of biomedical research in the country.

Please help us by sending a letter to Italian authorities!
