Hidden Species

“Exploring the brain as a neuroscientist sometimes feels like being an astronaut exploring the universe looking for new species. The image reflects an immunohistochemically processed mouse brain slice showing PKC-delta immunoreactive cells (blue) in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis. Using an AAV-based fluorescent labelling, serotonergic axon terminals (yellow) arising from the dorsal raphe nucleus were visualized. The photomicrograph was captured with a confocal laser scanning microscope, rotated by 90 degrees, and mirrored vertically to create a face-like structure”. Sandra Süß
