Ioana Mindruta – Moderator

Dr Ioana Mîndruță is a neurologist superspecialized in general epileptology and presurgical evaluation at the Epilepsy and Sleep Monitoring Unit, Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory within the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital. She is also competent in electrophysiology, namely in electro-encephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG) and evoked potentials (PE).

Nicolas Gaspard – Speaker

Nicolas Gaspard is a Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology at Université Libre de Bruxelles – Hôpital Erasme in Brussels, Belgium. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurology in New Haven, CT, USA. Since 2023, he has served as the Chair of the Belgian Clinical Neurophysiology Society.

Mirela Simon – Speaker

Dr Simon earned her Medical degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, and later a Master of Science degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, USA. After completing her Neurology Residency at Boston University Medical Center, she pursued specialized training in Clinical Neurophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she subsequently joined the staff. Currently she serves as an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital & Brigham and Women’s Hospital, bringing over 20 years of expertise in intraoperative neurophysiology to her practice. Dr Simon’s primary research focus centers on enhancing and developing innovative techniques for neurophysiologic mapping of the central nervous system. She is dedicated to advancing the understanding of both normal and abnormal cortical excitability, including its variations under various physiological and pathological conditions. Her investigations into the variability of depolarizing thresholds in eloquent cortex have been instrumental in optimizing a multimodal approach to neurophysiologic functional mapping and monitoring during supratentorial surgery.

Mihai Moldovan – Speaker

Associate professor Mihai Moldovan, past president of the National Neuroscience Society of Romania, graduated from the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest Romania. He earned his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Copenhagen where he continues his academic and clinical career, currently at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark. His ongoing research and innovation activity in Copenhagen and Bucharest focuses on developing translational neurophysiological methods for functional studies of the peripheral and central nervous systems. He is particularly interested in the assessment of the excitability at the axonal level as well as the assessment of the reactivity to stimulation at the neuronal network level, with broad diagnostic and therapeutic implications for neurological disease.

Irina Oane – Speaker

Irina Oane is Neurology Specialist and Scientific Researcher in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, Neurology Department, in the University Emergency Hospital Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Oane’s research focuses on the invasive presurgical exploration of patients with drug resistant epilepsy, in particular functional brain mapping and brain connectivity using electrical cortical stimulation during stereo-electroencephalography.
