FENS News, Neuroscience News

FENS is thrilled to announce the arrival of its newest member: the Cyprus Neuroscience Society (C.N.S.)!

Established in 2o24, C.N.S. represents a diverse community of neuroscientists driving brain research forward in Cyprus and internationally. Under the leadership of its board members and founding President, Dr Panos Zanos, C.N.S. strives to foster excellence in brain research, strengthen neuroscience education, and boost public awareness of brain science and its applications.

Specifically, C.N.S. aims to:

  • Support innovative research on the nervous system, from molecular mechanisms to behavioural outcomes.
  • Promote neuroscience literacy through seminars, workshops, and scientific communication efforts targeted at students, professionals, and the general public.
  • Engage the broader public in discussions about the impacts of neuroscience research for health, disease, and daily life.
  • Act as a bridge between Cyprus and the international neuroscience community.
  • Provide resources, recognition, and networking opportunities for its members in Cyprus.

C.N.S. within the broader FENS community

Dr Panos Zanos, PhD Director of the Translational Neuropharmacology Lab, Founding President of C.N.S

By joining FENS, C.N.S. is taking the next step in integrating Cyprus’s neuroscientific community into the global research landscape. As a newly established society in a small country, C.N.S. stands to benefit greatly from access to the European neuroscience networks, resources, and collaborative opportunities that its members need to advance their neuroscience careers and achieve their desired impact.

The benefits of FENS membership for C.N.S. range from access to FENS-sponsored training programs and educational resources and participation in the FENS Forum and other conferences to greater visibility for research, seminars, and training activities in Cyprus.

For its part, C.N.S. hopes to bring a fresh, unique, Mediterranean perspective to European neuroscience discussions. Representing researchers from a wide range of backgrounds – spanning clinical and basic neuroscience, psychology, and related disciplines – C.N.S. promotes an interdisciplinary approach that will be of added value to FENS, its committees, and its many initiatives.
